About the University

What is the level of accreditation, recognition and status of Alagappa University?

Alagappa University is a State Government University situated in the town of Karaikudi.

It was brought into existence by an Act of the Tamilnadu State Legislature in May 1985.

The University has emerged from a galaxy of Institutions initially founded by the munificent and multifaceted personality Padma Bhusan Dr.RM.Alagappa Chettiar.

Alagappa University is recognized by UGC and Re-accredited with “A” grade by NAAC.

DDE programs of the University are approved by Distance Education Council (DEC).

The “h” index of the University is 52.

The University has secured 1st rank in Graduation Outcomes (GO), 22nd rank in Research, Professional Practice & Collaborative Performance (RPC), 44th rank in Perception (PR), 58th rank in Outreach & Inclusivity (OI) with an overall rank of 49 among Indian Universities in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) instituted by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD, New Delhi).

What is the preferred timing for telephonic enquiry?

The University functions on week-days from Monday to Friday.

Saturdays and Sundays are week-end holidays.

Examination

When are the scheduled dates of Examinations in a year?

The academic year is from July to June. The University conducts exams twice in a year (one in the month of December and the other in the month of May).

May exam starts on first week of May and ends on last week of May.

December exam starts on last week of December and ends on second week of January.

I have submitted my exam application online. Where can I collect hall tickets?

Students who have submitted exam applications On-line can print the hall tickets instantly after the online submission.

While submitting my exam application on-line, I have paid the fees twice or multiple times. How to get back the excess amount paid?

The excess amount paid will be refunded to the bank account. It requires 2 to 7 days of time (depending on the nature of issue) to refund the excess amount paid.

I have not submitted my exam application online. Where can I collect hall tickets?

Students who have submitted exam applications off-line can collect the hall tickets from the respective exam centres two days before the commencement of the examination.

What are the documents required to produce in the examination hall?

(i) Hall ticket with photograph duly attested by a Gazetted Officer,

(ii) Original identity card issued by the DDE

Whether mobile phones and scientific calculators are allowed inside the exam hall?

No. Strictly not permitted.

I have pending dues. Whether I am allowed to sit for examination?

No. Students are allowed to write exams only after clearing the dues.

Improvement Exam

What are the eligibility norms to appear for Improvement Examination?

The students of this University have to write their improvement exam within six (6) months from the date of writing their previous exams.

Improvement is applicable only for the exams passed in first appearance and not for arrears. 

There is no provision to write improvement examination for old batch students.

Special permission

What do you mean by special permission to appear for exam?

Normally, the period of study is three (3) years for UG and two (2) years for PG. Apart from this period of study, a concession period of five (5) years is being given to the candidate to complete their arrear papers, if any. 

If the candidate is willing to appear for arrear papers beyond the mentioned period (8 years for UG and 7 years for PG), then the candidate has to obtain special permission to sit for the exam in order to complete the arrear paper.

Results

When can I expect my result?

Results are normally published and hosted in the University website in 30 - 45 days from the last date of examination.

What is the time gap between the exam and publication of results?

After the exams, answer scripts from 100 and odd exam centres across the country have to be arrived to the University.

Valuation takes about 20-30 days.

Data processing takes about 10-15 days.

Thus, results are generally published in 30-45 days from the last date of examination.

I have some issues or pending dues with University. Can I get the result / certificate?

Results will not be published for candidates who have

  1. dues in course fee,
  2. dues in exam fee,
  3. involved in malpractice,
  4. not properly entered their Register number in answer script,
  5. not properly shaded their Register number in answer script etc.

The results will be announced and certificates will be issued only after clearing the said issue(s).

Re-Valuation

I am not satisfied with the marks awarded to my answer scripts. Shall I apply for Re-valuation?

UG and PG students can apply for revaluation of answer scripts (theory papers only) within 10 days from the date of publication of results in the University website.

The request for Re-valuation should be sent in the prescribed application form downloadable from the University website.

The revaluation fee (Rs.500 per paper) in the form of Bank Demand Draft drawn in favour of “The Registrar, Alagappa University” payable at Karaikudi along with the copy of the result downloaded from the web site and the application form must reach the Controller of Examinations, Alagappa University, Karaikudi-630003 within 10 days from the date of publication of results.

There is no provision for revaluation of practical papers.

Photocopy of answer script

 

I am not satisfied with the marks awarded to my answer script. Shall I get photocopy of my answer script?

Yes. The prescribed fee is Rs.500/- per script. This may be remitted by means of Demand Draft in favour of "The Registrar, Alagappa University" payable at Karaikudi along with a covering letter addressed to The Controller of Examinations, Alagappa University, Karaikudi-630003.

Certificates

What is the time required to despatch the certificates?

Generally it takes one month after the publication of results.

Certificates will not be despatched to default candidates;

  1.    dues in course fee,
  2. dues in exam fee,
  3. involved in malpractice,
  4. not properly entered their Register number in answer script,
  5. not properly shaded their Register number in answer script etc.

The certificates will be despatched only after clearing the said issue(s).

How to get duplicate Provisional (PC) / Cumulative Mark Statement (CMS) / Degree certificates?

The duplicate certificate(s) will be issued to the students on submission of request letter from the candidate along with Photocopy of the original certificate (if available) and Demand draft in favour of “The Registrar, Alagappa University” payable at Karaikudi.

The Fees for PC is Rs.500.

The Fees for CMS is Rs.500.

The Fees for Degree Certificate is Rs.1000.

How to get duplicate Individual Mark Statement (IMS) certificate?

The duplicate IMS certificate(s) will be issued to the students on submission of

(i) Request letter from the candidate,

(ii) Original Non-traceable letter or missing certificate from the Police Station (English version),

(iii) Original Affidavit from the Notary public in Rs.20 stamped paper (English version),

(iv) Photocopy of the original certificate(s), if available,

(v) Demand draft in favour of “The Registrar, Alagappa University” payable at Karaikudi.

The Fees for IMS is Rs.500.

I have received my Cumulative Mark Statement (CMS) and Provisional Certificate (PC), but still I have not received my degree certificate. When can I get?

The degrees are to be approved by the Chancellor of the University / Governor of Tamil Nadu in the Annual Convocation function which will be normally held between August and February every year.

Last convocation was held on 13th October 2016.

What is the reason for non-receipt of my CMS & PC?

For the cases of non-payment of course fee, Cumulative Mark Statement (CMS) and Provisional Certificate (PC) are retained in the office. In such cases, the candidate is advised to contact the Director, Directorate of Distance Education, Alagappa University, Karaikudi (Phone 04565-223420 / 04565-223425) for payment and submit the "No Dues Certificate" to the Examination Section. On receipt of "No Dues Certificate", Mark Statement and Provisional Certificate will be despatched.

Tatkal System (get certificate immediately)

Is there any Tatkal scheme available for getting certificates in urgency?

Yes. If a candidate wants Provisional Certificate (PC) and Cumulative Mark Statement (CMS) urgently, the candidate should apply under "Tatkal Scheme" by sending a Demand Draft for Rs.1000/- in favour of "The Registrar, Alagappa University" payable at Karaikudï along with a request letter addressed to the Controller of Examinations. The certificate will be despatched by speed post within two days from the date of receipt of DD, subject to the condition that all the fees due to the University had been paid. 

Undelivered & Returned Certificates

How to get back my certificates that were undelivered / returned due to door lock or moved to other places?

Student should submit a request letter to the Controller of Examination with the following; (i) Self-addressed A4 size envelope stamped Rs.40,

(ii) Latest postal address,

(iii) Photocopy of the Mark Statement already received from this office (if any),

(iv) Photocopy of any one of the ID Card (ID card issued by DDE of Alagappa University / PAN Card / Driving License / Voter card / Aadhar Card).

Address Change

I have completed my UG / PG program through Distance education mode. I did not receive my degree certificate and cumulative mark statement. Recently I have changed my residential address. How can I get my certificates?

Normally, the individual, cumulative mark statements and provisional certificates are being sent to the students to the address available in the University records within two months from the date of publication of results.

If the candidate has moved to new residential address, the candidate must inform the new address to the Directorate of Distance Education, Alagappa University by paying fee of Rs.100. Then only the certificate will be sent to the new address.

Genuineness Certificate

How to get Genuineness Certificate?

Genuineness certificate is issued within two days from the date of receipt of request letter. The request letter should accompany

  1. Photocopy of Consolidated Mark Statement / Provisional Certificate / Degree / Diploma certificate of candidate,
  2. (ii) Demand draft for Rs.500 (for Government and Government Aided Institutions) / Rs.1000 (for Non-Governmental organization and individuals) drawn in favour of “The Registrar, Alagappa University” payable at Karaikudi.

On-line Genuineness Certificate

Transcript

How to get academic Transcripts?

Transcripts will be issued within two days from the date of receipt of request letter. The request letter should accompany (i) Photocopy of Consolidated Mark Statement / Provisional Certificate / Degree / Diploma certificate of candidate, (ii) Demand draft for Rs.1000/- in favour of “The Registrar, Alagappa University” payable at Karaikudi. If the cover containing transcripts is to be sent by the University directly to parties outside India, an additional fee of Rs.1000 should be added in demand draft to meet out Postal Charges.

Certificate of last date of exam

Can I get a Certificate of last date of Examination?

Yes. Candidate has to send Demand Draft for Rs.200/- in favour of "The Registrar, Alagappa University" payable at Karaikudi along with a covering letter addressed to The Controller of Examinations, Alagappa University, Karaikudi-630 003.

Research Degree

Whether the University is offering Research Programs (M.Phil. & Ph.D.) through Distance mode?

No. Research Programs (M.Phil. & Ph.D.) are not offered by the Directorate of Distance Education of Alagappa University.
