Dr. C. Sekar received his Ph.D. degree in Materials Science with specialisation in Nanomaterials (Fullerenes and Carbon Nanotubes) in October 1997 from Anna University, Chennai. He served as Post Doctoral Fellow at the Basic Research Laboratory of Nippon Telephone and Telegraph (NTT) Corporation, Japan for 3 years (1997-2000) and at the Institute for Solid State and Materials Research (IFW-Dresden), Germany for another 5 years (2000-2005).
Subsequently, Dr. Sekar served as an Assistant Professor of Physics at Periyar University, Salem. He was the founder Coordinator of the Center for Nanoscience and Technology in 2008 at the same University and mobilised a grant of Rs 1.0 crore for the centre. In recognition of his significant contributions, Periyar University awarded him with Sir. C.V. Raman Innovative Research Award in 2009.
Dr. Sekar has been working in Alagappa University as Professor and Head of the Department of Bioelectronics and Biosensors since March 2010. His current research activities include development of Chemo-Bio-Sensors for biomedical, agricultural and food technology applications. He has published 101 research articles in reputed journals like Nature-Physics, PRL, PRB, MSEC, Electrochim Acta and Biosensors & Bioelectronics, and presented more than 150 papers in National and International Conferences. According to Google scholar, he has an h-index of 29, i10-63 with 2665 citations.
He has filed two patents at NTT-Japan and three patents with Indian Patent Office. One of his group’s innovations earned a cash award of Rs 75 thousand and Professor K Mukherjee Gold Medal at The National Level Research Convention (ANVESHAN-2020) organised by the Association of Indian Universities. Recently, Dr Sekar’s group has been working on the development of novel sensor arrays for testing and validation of traditional natural medicines. Dr. Sekar was awarded with the Alagappa Excellence Research Award for the Year 2016-2017 in recognition of his research contributions.
He was also a visiting Professor in Shizuoka University, Japan and University of Messina, Italy. Dr Sekar successfully underwent three weeks training “LEADERSHIP FOR ACADEMICIANS PROGRAMME (LEAP)” organized by the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchy in collaboration with Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sri City and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
