Alagappa University College of Physical Education
Genesis
Alagappa College of Physical Education was founded by the great Philanthropist Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar. It was inaugurated in July 1956 by the Maharajah of Mysore. In the beginning year, the College offered only a Certificate Course in Physical Education. In 1967, One Year B. P.Ed. Programme was started and in 1970, One Year M.P.Ed. Programme was initiated. When these programmes were introduced, they were considered then as pioneering efforts in South India and received acclamation from experts in the field. In 1985 this College became a Constituent College of Alagappa University when it was established; and the College was renamed as Alagappa University College of Physical Education. This College is now offering the following Programmes of Study; Two-year B.P.Ed. Programme, Three-year B.Sc-Physical Education Programme,and Two-year M.P.Ed. Programme, Two- year D.P.Ed. Programme and Ph.D Programme. All these programmes have been recognized by the National Council of Teacher Education and Government of Tamil Nadu.
The Unique feature of the College is its 11-acre own campsite situated on the Seashore at Thondi Campus of the University which is known for its beautiful environment. It is a matter of pride that this college has produced two Dhronacharya Awardees. Many alumni of this college have become International Sports Personalities and many have joined Uniform Services. It will be worth noting that the first Principal of ACPE was nominated as the First Vice-Chancellor of Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, Gwalior and four distinguished alumni of this institution were nominated as Vice-Chancellors of Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University, Chennai. Six Alumni have become Registrars of various Universities.

- To conduct quality research in Physical Education and allied areas so as to make the college as a centre of excellence.

Alagappa University College of Physical Education is situated on a vast area of 110 acres with many grounds for playing football, cricket, hockey, basketball and two multi-purpose indoor stadia. It has excellent infrastructure facilities such as separate well-furnished academic blocks, a library with computer facilities, a para sports centre and a health centre with physiotherapy facilities. The health centre has equipment to provide first-aid to injured sportspersons and help them recover from injury. The College has an aesthetically appealing ambience. Also, a canteen is functioning on the Campus for the benefit of students. There are two separate hostels for men which could accommodate 500 inmates and one hostel for women which could accommodate 150 inmates.

Student Council
Student Council functions as an effective forum that looks after the welfare of the students of the College. It serves a powerful link between the students and the University administration. The Office Bearers conduct meetings periodically to assess the needs and necessities of students and endeavour to help them. The assignment of conducting intramural tournaments for all games and annual track and field meet is entrusted with the Student Council which is executed by them meticulously.
