Major Developmental Contribution

  • First Vice-Chancellor of Alagappa University and got extension for three more years.
  • Created innovative and Industry focused Departments, viz. Department of Industrial Chemistry, Bank Management, Corporate Secretaryship, Computer Science and Engineering, Education and Physical Education.
  • Took strenuous efforts in getting 2(f) and 12 (B) status to Alagappa University within very short period.
  • Obtained membership for Alagappa University from the Association of Indian Universities and Association of Commonwealth Universities.
  • Constructed the Administrative Block and Central Library with visionary and aesthetic sense.

Dr. K. Nagappan

Major Developmental Contribution

  • Started the Directorate of Distance Education to generate source of revenue to get rid of financial crunch of the University.
  • Established the Alagappa Institute of Management to offer MBA programmes.
  • Introduced the ICT in the Administration, Finance and Examination sections.
  • Being an eminent professional in developing software, himself has developed many software and implemented in practice in all administrative sections.

Dr. P. Ramasamy

Major Developmental Contribution

  • Created a Centre for Crystal Growth and Instrumentation Centre.
  • Inculcated the sense of Research Culture among the Faculty members.
  • Encouraged the faculty members to grab Extramural Research Grants from various Funding agencies.
  • Took effective efforts in protecting the University lands from public encroachment.

Major Developmental Contribution

  • Established the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Area Studies in Thondi campus.
  • Arranged the collaborative agreements with Academic Institutions to offer Distance Education Programmes, particularly the Computer Science programmes.

Major Developmental Contribution

  • Unitary type of Alagappa University has been converted to an Affiliating University by the Tamil Nadu Universities Act 2002.
  • Accordingly, 21 Arts and Science Colleges affiliated with Madurai-Kamaraj University, Madurai, have been transferred to Alagappa University, Karaikudi.
  • The Department of Biotechnology has been established during this period.
  • Introduced the concept of establishing Learning Centers of Directorate of Distance Education within and outside the state.
  • The concept of Collaborative Programmes has been introduced to have an agreement with private institutes utilizing their physical facilities to offer the university programmes.
  • Witnessed significant stable increase in Financial soundness of the University.

Major Developmental Contribution

  • Established four new Departments, viz. Department of English and Foreign Languages, Library and Information Science, Women’s Studies and Economics and Rural Development.
  • Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) has been introduced for all programmes in the University campus.
  • Sensitized the staff members about the need for Assessment and Accreditation.
  • With the consolidation of all available resources, brought the University to go for NAAC assessment and got accredited with ‘A’ Grade by NAAC.
  • Three Departments, Viz. Dept. of Physics, Industrial Chemistry and Physical Education got UGC – SAP status and two Departments, viz. Dept. of Physics and Industrial Chemistry got DST – FIST status.
  • Considerable number of Administrative staff positions has been added based on the recommendation of Man power Assessment Committee.

  • Established frontier Science Departments, viz. Department of Bioinformatics, Bioelectronics and Biosensors, Nano Science and Technology and Animal Health and Management.
  • Constructed the G+7 storeyed Science Block with sufficient working space to cater to the needs of Science Departments.
  • New Distance Education building with G+2 storeyed has been constructed.
  • An Exclusive Building for Ramanujan Research Centre for Higher Mathematics has been inaugurated.
  • Students admission and revenue enhanced substantially by getting recognition and ex-post approval from Distance Education Council for various Distance Education Programmes.

  • University got Re-accredited with ‘A’ Grade by NAAC with CGPA of 3.21 out of 4.
  • Initiated massive curriculum revision with broad based board of studies inviting Foreign Professors / Experts.

  • Established 14 new department: History, Social Work, International Business, Botany, Logistics Management, Computer Science, Computational Logistics, Microbiology, Tourism and Hotel Management, Special Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, Geology, Education(DDE), Alagappa Institute of Educational Sciences, Biomedical Science.
  • Established Vallal Dr.RM. Alagappa Chettiar Museum show casing his invaluable educational services.
  • Conceived and established the Museum for Tamil Culture to preserve the antique materials exhibiting the traditional and cultural values of Tamil people.
  • Acted as a Master brain and Steared the University to attain ‘A+’ Grade (CGPA: 3.64) in the Third Cycle of NAAC Accreditation and other recognitions to the University, such as Category – I Status and Special Autonomy Status for MHRD – UGC, Attainment of 27th Position under the category “Universities” in NIRF 2018, taking the University to global attention.
  • Estabished the state of the art University Science Instrumentation Centre(USIC) in campus.
  • Elevated the Central Library to fully Automated level with Radio Frequency Identification Device(RFID) System.
  • Brought Rs.120 crores under RUSA Phase-I and RUSA Phase-IIschemes for the creation of new facilities, upgrading the existing facilities, purchase of equipment, journals and computers leading to overall quality enhancement.
  • Established Alagappa University Study Circle to impart capacity building training to the aspirants for competitive examination.
  • Started and Innovative Resources School for differently - abled children.
  • Established Research Development wing of M/s Galaxy Research Technologies, Singapore in the University Campus.
  • Established Alagappar Alumini Garden, Botanical Garden and Animal House.
  • Created Centre for Marine Tourism in the satellite campus at Thondi.
  • Alagappa University won Awards; (i) 3rd position in Swachhta Ranking 2017 from MHRD for the cleanest Higher Educational Institutions in the country,(ii) World Clean and Green University Campus Award from the National Institute of Cleanliness and Educational Research (NICER), New Delhi,(iii)World Environment and Livelihood Award (WEAL)2017 from NICER, (iv) Indian Association for the Blind (IAB) Sliver Zone Award for outstanding contribution for the empowerment of persons with visual challenges and (v) ISO 9001 – 2015 certification based on the Quality measures.

Prof. Dr. N. Rajendran

Major Developmental Contribution

  • Professor N.Rajendran is having 34 years of rich teaching and research experience. He has been entrusted with the task of founding new Departments at Bharathidasan University. He had been the Founder Professor of History, Founder Director of Bharathidasan School of Management(2016-2017) and Founder Director of Center for Social Exclusion and Inclusive Studies (2007-2008). He also served as the Director for Centre for Distance Education (Bharathidasan University 2014-2015). He served as Dean, Faculty of Arts for two terms (2008-2015). Besides, he was also the Coordinator for RUSA scheme from 2014-2016. In his acclaimed academic career, he has received many academic accolades and awards.
  • He believes that the prime objectives of the University system is vested on Teaching, Research, Extension and Empowerment.
  • His vision of the University will be ”Access, Quality and Excellence”.
  • Access to Education and Administration.
  • Attaining quality in teaching and research; Quality Research ought to be the anchor sheet of good teaching.
  • Attaining all round development of the University like Science and Technology, Knowledge Development, Performing Arts, Creative Writing, Sports, etc..,
  • Obtaining Center with Potential for Excellence in Particular Areas (CPEPA) for Science and Arts Departments; Ultimately University with Potential for Excellence (UPE) status.
