About the Department
Genesis

The Centre for Yoga Education was brought into existence in the year 2018 with the objective of popularising Yoga and taking the fruits of Yoga to the common man. The Centre organises a number of training programmes for students and teaches Yoga to them. Within a short span of just 6 years, the Centre for Yoga has carved out a niche for itself. It imparts Yoga Training not only to the students of this Centre but also to the students of other departments. It instils in the learners the values of Discipline, Perfection and Dynamism which are crucial for their success. The Centre for Yoga currently runs B.Sc Programme in Yoga. Besides, the Centre for Yoga caters to the intellectual needs of the students of Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga offered through CDOE. For the benefit of the general public, Free Yoga Classes are conducted every day both in the morning and evening. In addition to that, the faculty of Centre for Yoga visit Government Schools and Colleges and impart Yoga training to students besides organising Summer Yoga Camps intended for school and college students and general public. At the invitation from Raj Bhavan a team of students from the Centre for Yoga and various departments of Alagappa University participated in the celebration of International Day of Yoga that falls on June 21 and exhibited their talents. Currently, Dr.S.Saroja, Professor-cum-Coordinator heads the Centre for Yoga Education.

  1. To frame an all- inclusive curriculum to fulfil the demands of the stakeholders.
  2. To establish a learner- centric environment at the Centre.
  3. To organise Training programmes, Camps, Seminars and Conferences on a regular basis.

The Centre has established an alumni cell to foster a strong and enduring connection with former students recognizing their invaluable contribution to the centre’s legacy. This initiative seeks to cultivate a vibrant community of alumni who remain engaged, connected, and invested in the centre’s continued growth and success.

Aims and Objectives

The primary aim of the alumni cell is to nurture and sustain meaningful relationship between the department and its alumni network. Through various initiatives and engagements, the cell endeavors to achieve the following objectives:

  1. To foster a sense of belonging and pride among alumni towards the Centre. Facilitate networking opportunities and professional connections among alumni.
  2. To provide avenues for alumni to contribute to the centre’s development and enhancement.
  3. To promote collaboration and knowledge sharing between alumni and current students.
  4. To Preserve and celebrate the achievements and contributions of alumni to the Centre and society at large.
Alumni Programme

The alumni cell organizes a diverse range of programs and activities throughout the year to engage and reconnect alumni with the centre. These programmes include alumni reunions, networking events, guest lectures and mentoring initiatives. Additionally the cell collaborates with alumni led initiatives aimed at enriching the student experience and fostering personal and professional growth.

Student Council

The Centre for Yoga has established a Student Council which plays a pivotal role in moulding the students into competent individuals. The office bearers of the council are engaged in organising seminars and conferences, conducting alumni-meet and quiz programmes. They also bring to the knowledge of the faculty the needs and necessities of students which the faculty fulfil immediately. Student council proves to be a platform for students to develop their leadership qualities.

The Centre for Yoga takes all possible steps for the employment of students. Many of the Alumni of the Centre for Yoga have been appointed as trainers, coaches and instructors of Yoga in various educational institutions. Some of the former students have got into Government Services too.
