Alagappa Model School was established by Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar on 04^th July 1951. This School had served as a laboratory for the erstwhile teacher training college established by Dr. RM. Alagappa Chettiar. Right from the inception, both Tamil and English medium of education was offered up to
class X.

Higher Secondary (+2) education was started since 14th June 1978 with due recognition from the Government of Tamil Nadu.

As per the Tamil Nadu Government Education (NU2) Department No. 110481/NU2/85-15, dated 25.03.1988, the Government have taken over the Alagappa Model Higher Secondary School under the Management of the Dr. Alagappa Chettiar Educational Trust.

After the establishment of the University, the Government have handed over this school to Alagappa University.

"Alagappa Model School is the only Government school in India functioning under University Administration."

The Government have constituted eight member Alagappa Model Higher Secondary School Committee to look after the functioning of the School. Accordingly the school has been managed by the Alagappa University.

This school has been serving as a laboratory to the Alagappa University College of Education for training the B.Ed students.

Alagappa Model Higher Secondary School is a Government Aided school with the teachers salary grant from the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Currently, the school has 38 teachers and 1 staff on roll.

The maintenance and infrastructure development of the school are taken care by the Alagappa University administration.

The School is situated within the University campus opposite to Alagappa University College of Education (erstwhile training college).
