Name and Genesis of the CRS

Alagappa University Community Radio AUCR 90.8 was set-up on 26-01-2021 by Alagappa University with a vision to spread knowledge and awareness in the fields of Education, Science,Health, Sanitation, Agriculture, Environment, Culture and doing the best. We continue our service to create impact in the target community by involving the native people, experts youth and student population available.

Thematic Focus:

We focus on quality programmes reflecting the surrounding Community like Education guidance, Health care, Child care, Agriculture Informative programs, Environment awareness programs, Gender equality, Competitive exams and Career guidance programmes

Innovations in format or any other way:

In addition to broadcasting, we do podcast our programmes using various platforms like i-radio live.com, Spotify podcasters, Google podcasts, Amazon music, Exo player & Gaana podcasts. Our programmes have reached significant number of worldwide listeners through podcasts.

Our core team includes A Director, an RJ cum Editor and Student Volunteers.

Frequency:

We transmit our programmes at 90.8 MHz, with a 50W transmitter capacity

Broadcast Hours and Language:

Our broadcasting timings: Monday to Saturday - Morning Session: 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and Evening Session: 3:00p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Usually our programmes are in Tamil, occasionally in English and rarely bilingual in order to reach the local community.

Our programmes through On-Air broadcasting are heard by about 30% population of about 20km radius of reach. Produced more than 2000 programmes so far.

  7. Students Time : Students from local schools and colleges do skits, talks, songs and other cultural programmes
  8. My Favourite Book Series : Introducion of different genre books every week by different personalities
  9. Nerkaanal : Interviews with doctors, Resource persons from various fields, Scientists and Local representatives
  10. Special debates on important celebrations and festival days by Tamil department students
  11. Kutties Chutties : Special primetime programme on every Friday in which professional story tellers tell stories and kids also take part in various activities like riddles, stories, singing and so on.
  12. Chellamae Series : Childcare advice program by Pediatricians
  13. Appatha Samayal : Healthy food recipe by local elderly women

Major Projects


  1. Partnered with Election Commission of India and Smart to create awareness programmes on voting and Election and produced 8 episodes. (Annexure_I)
  2. Undertaken major project Anubhav-VP in partnership with Vigyan Prasar and have produced 104 episodes focussing on elderly people. (Annexure_II)
  3. Produced and broadcasted 26 episodes of Ariviyal Palagai, a project sponsored by DST Vigyan Prasar and Tamilnadu Science and Technology Centre. (Annexure_III)
  4. Jointly produced a Science Communication project series “Jigyaasa” jointly with CECRI Karaikudi. (Annexure_IV)
  5. Our ongoing project is Agricultural informative program series under the guidance of Govt. Of India’s Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers sponsored by SPIC & Greenstar Fertilizers Ltds. (Annexure_V)
  6. Broadcasting Audio Ciet education programs by the NCERT regularly.(49 programs till so far)

Success Stories


We do all programmes with Zero cost production involving local experts, staff from our own University and Student volunteers. By involving young students as interns, we produce innovative programmes useful for the community.

  1. Our CRS has received certificate of appreciation from CIET-NCERT for creating awareness among the community and education services during COVID pandemic.
  2. Produced a Documentary on World Soil day to participate in the compaign invited by UN Food and Agricultural Organization.   3. Live streaming broadcast on special occasions of University such as Independence day, Republic day and Convocation Ceremony
  4. Broadcasted the Chandrayaan launching in Live streaming through the link given by ISRO
