About the Department
Genesis

The Department of Social Work was established in 2016. The primary focus of the department is to construct an equitable, fair and constructive society through the contribution of post graduates in Social Work. The Department envisages to transfer the principles and ideas of the domain of Social Work into reality and it accords equal significance to both theoretical and practical components. The nature of the curriculum has been decided in such a way that it enable the students to carry out field work periodically. Even though it is a recently started department, it attracted students from across the country and abroad.

The special features of the department include Summer Internship and Block Placement Training. The all – inclusive curriculum enhances student’s social skills and leadership qualities and also enable them to acquire hands -on experience and knowledge about the field with which students can excel in their chosen careers.

The Department notably has tie-ups with international and national NGO’s, Community Development Organisations and have distinctly signed MoU’s with top social work educational institutions and universities.

Vision
  1. To create an egalitarian, equitable and a society of justice and fairness by the creation of socially conscious post graduates.
  2. To establish a discrimination- free society by attaching utmost significance to the core values of Social Work such as social justice, sustenance of human relationship, integrity and professional competence.
Mission
  1. To make students realise the importance of social justice, self – respect and fairness.
  2. To awaken student to the prevalence of discrimination in society and inspire them to eradicate it through the pursuit of education.

Research

The Department of Social Work undertakes extensive research in various spheres of social work. Currently, 3 PhD scholars are doing research. Besides, the department has completed 11 major research projects and it has produced groundbreaking findings. At present, there are 3 ongoing projects at the department. The outcomes of the research have been widely published in reputed journals and cited.
