The objective of this Award is to recognize and honour the contribution made by the Tamilnadu scientists for the development of science and research. It consists of Rs. 50,000/- and a citation. TANSA is given in 10 disciplines of (i) Agricultural science (ii) Biological science (iii) Chemical science (iv) Engineering and Technology (v) Environmental science (vi) Medical science (vii) Mathematical science (viii) Physical science (ix) Social Science and (x) Veterinary Science.
